Parent Club Study Guides

If you're looking for the latest Dog News consider going to:

The Dog Press

PARENT CLUB STUDY GUIDES Maybe you have some free time and have decided to investigate some breeds on the AKC website. Sometimes web sites are really an intricate spiderweb and you can't seem to find a way to the information you need.

Here to help is the link you need to take you directly to the Judges Study Guides. The page includes Mentor Lists, Breed Standard Tests, and a Juniors Guide. For most breeds, you can click on; History, Standard, Parent Club (web), Mentor List, and the Breed Exam. It's study time!

AKC FIELD REPRESENTATIVES Perhaps you need to contact one of those elusive Field Reps that wander around the Country at dog shows. Maybe you want to make sure, so you don't forget, your communication is in writing. The link for every Field Rep with their email is well, buried in the AKC web. But not for long. Click HERE to get the list.

NATIONAL & REGIONAL SPECIALTIES You've decided to attend a few National Specialties, pick up some component credits because you're sure they'll have a seminar at the specialty. Now to find the list of Specialties and more importantly the locations! It's right here!

So, just where is Oconomowoc, WI and Ypsilanti, MI, and Kennebunkport, ME? The link to find those places fast, and do additional planning is on Google. Just type in the city, you've never hear of, and the state, you should know of.

OLD GROUPS, NEW GROUPS, WHAT GROUPS? Most of us know about the GROUP breed structure at present. For a Refresher Course - click HERE.

For a look at the proposed NEW GROUPS - click HERE.

AKC FACTS & STATISTICS Wandering through the AKC web, looking for... I forgot because I was lost, I stumbled upon the AKC's Facts and Stats sheet. Okay, it's 3 pages. But, this listed the AKC Breeds and Varieties by Groups including the Misc. Group and Foundation Stock breeds. Wow! I even found an error in the numbers but we're all human! Right? ... get it HERE.

AKC DOWNLOADABLE FORMS Let's Save a Tree - Or Maybe Not. Can you believe the list of downloadable forms on the AKC web? Huh? The link to it is playing Cat and Mouse... Apparently these are "most AKC forms and applications". What? There's more??? Check the list.

AKC's Rules Policies and Guidelines

At the May 2007 AKC Board of Directors meeting and listed as Attachment B to the minutes is the New Rules Policies and Guidelines for Conformaiton Dog Show Judges. Every judge should know these. Click HERE for the 20 page pdf file.

BREED COMPONENT CRITERIA Maybe this is a few years old but it's good to know . The AKC instituted new criteria for obtaining component credits at "Seminars, Institutes, Judges Study Groups and Mentoring" effective April 1, 2006. This certainly affects how you receive component credits for specific breeds.

You can read the FINAL AKC Additional Breed Component Criteria on the AKC web site HERE.
